Why Dual Team Events?

A common question our staff gets is “why dual team events?” While individual events are great for individual development, we believe that team events are just as important. Team events give our club an opportunity to compete together. We are sharpening each other year round in the room as a team, regardless of the different schools that we compete for during the scholastic season. These are our teammates and families just as much as our school teams are. Team events build comradery between athletes and families and provide our athletes an opportunity to compete for something bigger than themselves. From a technical aspect, team events force our athletes to score more points, seek bonus points and push for pins and tech falls for the Team. This scoring mentality translates directly to improving individual results.

Dual Meet Team Selection Process & Expectations

Timeline:

  • A google form will be sent out, at a minimum, 3 months in advance of the upcoming tournament.

  • The form will be open for 2 weeks. You must fill out the form to be considered for the event. This form is NOT an interest form, it is a commitment form.

  • After the form closes, there will be 1 week for the team to be selected. We want to fill our teams with as many Grit athletes as we can, but if you do not hear from Grit within 2 weeks of the form closing, we encourage you to join a free agent list for the event.

Selection Process:

  • Our goal as a club is to fill and field our most competitive teams comprised of Grit Mat Club members. Priority for teams is given to current members (Active within the last 6 months). If you wish to participate on teams, we ask that you are an Active member who is attending workouts on a consistent basis.

  • The first step to selection is filling out the google form. A google form will be sent out for each tournament. You must fill out the form to be considered for a spot. As stated before, the form is NOT an Interest form, it is a Commitment Form. If you complete the form, it is expected that you are committing to the spot if asked by the coaching staff.

  • Team selection is at the discretion of the coaching staff with postseason and tournament results as primary decision factors. Wrestle offs will only occur on a case by case basis decided by the coaching staff.

Expectations:

  • It is an expectation that our members compete and represent Grit in team tournaments. As a staff, we carefully create a schedule that we believe gives our athletes the best opportunities to compete against high level competition. We want our best athletes representing us as it benefits the individual and also the club. We want to continue to improve the reputation of our club and need participation from our best athletes to do so.

  • It is also an expectation that we put together our most competitive teams featuring our members. In today’s landscape of mercenary dual teams, we want to enter highly competitive teams featuring our club members. We expect commitment to Grit’s dual teams from athletes at all levels.

  • We do our best to make the events as cost effective as possible. If finances are an issue please let one of us know.
